Our History

Founding

October 1977

Paul Halyard, P.E., leaves his job at Sauer Mechanical Contractors and opens Peninsula Engineering, Inc. (Officially Incorperated in 1980) He calls on his friend Bert McCree at McCree Architects & Constructors and walks out with 2 Design / Build bank projects. Peninsula Engineering, Inc. is proud to still serve our first client for over 45 years.

The Metcalf Building

1983

DSJ Investments buys the historical Metcalf building in Downtown Orlando and hires Peninsula Engineering, Inc. for a complete restoration of all MEP systems. This same year Orlando hosted its inaugural Light up Orlando block party. Peninsula Engineering, Inc.’s name is prominently displayed on the Metcalf building garnering more work for the firm.

First Employee

1986

John Elsea hired as the first full-time employee of Peninsula Engineering, Inc. He serves as project manager and mechanical designer for clients such as Sprint Telephone, Florida Hospital, Olympia & York, and Pioneer Bank.

Florida Gas Transmission building

1987

The 120,000 SF Florida Gas Transmission building in Winter Park, FL. is sold. Peninsula Engineering, Inc. designs the first ever electric service to the building and also building wide MEP renovations. The original owner generated their own power with natural gas generators on-site.

Sierra Land Group

1991

Peninsula Engineering, Inc. designs our first project for Glendale, CA. based Sierra Land Group, a hotel in Lake Buena Vista, FL. Peninsula Engineering, Inc. has continued to work for Sierra Land Group on multiple projects ever since.

A New Home

1993

Peninsula Engineering, Inc. moves to Edgewater Drive in College Park and quickly expands into adjacent building to accommodate our growing staff.

New Leadership

1995

John Elsea and Albert Marques initiate a stock purchase of Peninsula Engineering, Inc. The acquisition was completed 1999.

Project of the Year

1999

Florida Engineering Society names Peninsula Engineering, Inc.’s project Universal Studios Florida / Lowes Hotel Common Support Facility as their Engineering Project of the Year. Peninsula Engineering, Inc. founder Paul Halyard, P.E. is named Florida Engineering Society Engineer of the Year. Dan Young of PEI receives engineering technician of the year.

Third Generation Leadership

2006

Rich King and Bryan Spangler initiate a majority stock purchase of PEI that was completed on April 1, 2014. This is the third generation of leadership at Peninsula Engineering, Inc.

Kittinger F-4 Memorial

2014

PEI begins organizing design and construction volunteers to erect the Col. Joe Kittinger F-4 Monument to Orlando Vietnam War Casualties

Strategic Partner Award

2015

Peninsula Engineering, Inc. awarded the first ever Strategic Partner Award from Walt Disney World. Selected from over 2,600 vendors and service providers.

Peninsula Engineering, Inc. Day

October 27, 2017

Peninsula Engineering, Inc. celebrates their 40th Anniversary. By Proclamation of the Mayor, it is declared Peninsula Engineering, Inc. Day in Orlando.
